I [Ron] grew up in a household with a family that always enjoyed music. My father was a huge jazz fan especially, Buddy Rich, my mother loved the hits from the sixties. At around eleven years old I remember hearing great jazz beats from my father's stereo and thought "I really want to play the drums," I approached my father about it, and
I [Ron] grew up in a household with a family that always enjoyed music. My father was a huge jazz fan especially, Buddy Rich, my mother loved the hits from the sixties. At around eleven years old I remember hearing great jazz beats from my father's stereo and thought "I really want to play the drums," I approached my father about it, and he said, sure, as long as you take lessons. I said, "dad, I just want to play rock and roll," and he said, "you still have to take lessons." So I did for quite a few years. I was around fourteen years old when I decided to start my first band. I found all the right players, including my current bass player Keith. We had some decent success playing the school dance circuit, all the way through high school. After graduation, everybody went their separate ways. Music took a backseat to working and girlfriends. I continued to practice playing the drums and even picked up a guitar and started to learn that. After a 30 plus year hiatus some of my original bandmates decided to re-start the old band only this time I played guitar. We had great success for many years until retirement. I soon moved north.... Lucky for me, my old bass player decided to move north too. We thought, "we can't quit now!" so we found some awesome players that are currently in the band today. Random Hoax is truly at our pinnacle!

Keith got bit by the music bug at the age of 12. Ron and Keith started their first band in the summer of 1969; The State of Mind. In 1972, they became Random Hoax. Keith got bit by the music bug at the age of 12. Ron and Keith started their first band in the summer of 1969; The State of Mind. In 1972, they became Random Hoax. Several personnel changes and graduation saw the end of the band (or so they thought.) In 1978 Keith joined the band 750 and saw much success in the Detroit area. In 1980 he formed "Cobalt" with several neighborhood friends. In 1983 he joined Tryxter and enjoyed moderate success for 2 years. By 1985 he had married and started a family so he gave up on his Rock Star dream for 20 years That's when Ron contacted him to tell me about their high school band's founding guitarist and his battle with cancer. At his funeral in 2009, they decided to resurrect Random Hoax. Keith played over 100 shows over the following 14 years. In 2023, he retired, divorced, and moved north to be near family and Ron. 2024 brought new life to Random Hoax with the addition of drummer extraordinaire Sean Doran and exceptional keyboardist David Gadd. The final piece to the puzzle was added in January of 2026 by welcoming the spectacular vocals of Amy (Blue) Rich. Random Hoax, truly a force to be reckoned with.

Sean Doran, from northern Michigan, began playing drums when he was 4 years old. By the age of 9, he was performing Herb Albert tunes with his two older brothers who were also accomplished musicians. By the age of 11, Sean was performing at Night Clubs, private parties and local area "gigs" all throughout northern Michigan. Sean, with his brothers Dan and Dave, were the original members of the 5-piece top 40 band Steel Satin', from West Branch, and being encouraged by their parents, the band toured throughout North America and Canada for most of Sean's high school years. Other members on keyboard and guitar changed a few times, with all three brothers remaining constant. Sean was present in high school 1 1/2 years and finished while being tutored "on the road" in order to complete his high school credit requirements. During Sean's high school years he attended the prestigious Interlochen School of Music for the short summer jazz program and immediately took a keen interest in big band jazz, performing songs from that genre. It was also during that time when Sean was selected for the State of Michigan Honors choir and was recognised for his singing abilities. During this time, Sean and his brother Dan were asked to join the band Aladdin, from northern Michigan as well, which was touring North America, and this continued until Sean decided to head off to Eastern Michigan University. Sean has been performing drums, and singing lead and backup ever since, for various groups for many years, never stepping completely away from music. Sean holds a masters degree MBA, in business finance, a bachelor in marketing, and an associate in engineering. He retired last year (2025) as a VP of Engineered Materials and is now quickly entrenched in "classic rock", as well as jazz, having loved both genres since "back in the day."
David Gadd

David plays a variety of instruments and has been featured in various bands and groups in Detroit and the larger Michigan music scene. David brings mad piano skills to Random Hoax.

She started singing, song-writing, and swearing at the age of 2, joined every possible vocal and instrumental group during her school years (including honors and all star
Meet Amy: responsible office manager by day, microphone-grabbing, flute-wielding rock gremlin by night. Amy has been making noise (the good kind… mostly) for decades. She started singing, song-writing, and swearing at the age of 2, joined every possible vocal and instrumental group during her school years (including honors and all star bands and choirs), spent some of her twenties running bar karaoke, and somehow turned the mantra "just one more song" into her lifelong quest. She has performed everywhere from band and choir stages to churches, sporting events, community concerts, biker rallies, bars, beach parties, car shows, ladies teas, and more - and is 100% down for whatever adventure Random Hoax throws her into next! She married, birthed and raised four awesome humans to adulthood, attended EMU, worked various jobs, joined various bands, and today, somehow still has the energy to get on stage and unleash her special brand of weird. When she’s not making music, Amy is busy managing a non-profit office, riding motorcycles, cooking enough food to feed a small village, lifting weights, taking photos, petting cats, collecting books, doing makeup, getting tattoos, embracing her inner gothic queen, and adding more glitter and personality to the world. To Random Hoax, Amy brings vocals, weird song selections, and the “wait… did she really just say that?” moments. Her favorite introduction of all time is; "This is my mildly inappropriate friend, Amy," and she’s proof that life is better with the music up, the windows down, and spending time in the company of a sassy, musically inclined Italian woman.
